Remembering Robin Williams: A Fashion Icon Ahead of His Time with Streetwear

Robin Williams was an icon in the entertainment industry, known for his unique and energetic performances. However, he was also known for his eclectic sense of style, often seen wearing bold and colorful clothing, including Japanese streetwear designs before they became widely popular in the USA.

One of the most notable instances of Williams sporting Japanese streetwear was when he wore a BAPE (A Bathing Ape) hoodie during a performance in 2002. BAPE, a Japanese clothing brand founded in 1993, was not yet well-known in the United States at the time, but Williams was already ahead of the curve. He was often seen wearing BAPE t-shirts and hoodies in public, showcasing his love for the brand's bold graphics and unique style.

Williams was also a fan of other Japanese streetwear brands, such as Undercover and Visvim. He even wore a pair of Visvim FBT (Folk Boots) sneakers during the premiere of the movie "One Hour Photo" in 2002, long before the brand gained mainstream popularity in the US.

Williams' love for Japanese streetwear wasn't just limited to clothing. He was also a collector of Japanese toys and other pop culture memorabilia, showcasing his appreciation for Japanese culture as a whole.

Williams' fashion choices were often seen as daring and unconventional, but that's what made him stand out from the crowd. He wasn't afraid to take risks and try new things, and his love for Japanese streetwear was just one example of his unique sense of style.

In many ways, Williams was a trailblazer for Japanese streetwear in the United States. His love for the style helped to introduce the brand to a new audience, and paved the way for other celebrities and fashion enthusiasts to embrace the bold and unique designs of Japanese streetwear.

Unfortunately, Williams passed away in 2014, but his legacy and influence on both the entertainment industry and fashion world will never be forgotten. His love for Japanese streetwear will always be remembered as one of the many ways he was ahead of his time, and a true fashion icon.
